Grainger’s Pond is a stunning 2-acre, 100-year-old former gravel pit, set on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds between Pocklington and York, near the charming village of Barmby Moor.

Originally excavated in the late 1920s by my great-grandfather, Mr W. Grainger, the gravel from the site helped build nearby Pocklington Airfield. A century later, the pond has evolved into a hidden gem, rich in history and natural beauty.

Having remained largely untouched for decades, the pond has developed into a thriving, unspoilt fishery. Since taking ownership in 2022, we have carefully enhanced the setting by clearing fallen trees and opening up the paths and banks—revealing a truly special and tranquil fishing venue.

Grainger’s Pond boasts an impressive and healthy stock of coarse fish, including common carp, mirror carp, leather carp, albino carp, and more recently, crucian carp. With carp recorded up to 33lb and many consistently over 15lb, it offers exciting opportunities for anglers of all levels. The pond is also home to bream, tench, roach, rudd, chub, perch, goldfish, and eels.

Thanks to its long period of minimal disturbance, the fish are in exceptional condition, making Grainger’s Pond a unique and rewarding fishing experience in a peaceful, natural setting.
